1. What is anaerobic digestion?
Anaerobic digestion is the process in which microorganisms break down organic material in the absence of oxygen. Biogas, mainly methane, is produced during the process.
2. Why is EnviroESI’s anaerobic digester more effective than others on the market?
The Static Granular Bed Reactor (SGBR), developed at Iowa State University and licensed by EnviroESI,® utilizes a bed of highly active anaerobic granules in a downflow regimen. This innovative system eliminates the need for complicated three-phase solids, gas, liquid, separator or recirculation pumps, timers, mixers and any other ancillary equipment that is required for similar anaerobic systems. EnviroESI’s SGBR process has significantly reduced the treatment and biogas production time to just 24 hours, which reduces reactor waste storage volume. This cost-effective breakthrough technology is poised to transform the way industry handles waste materials, converting them into a renewable energy source for a cleaner, healthier environment.
3. What can be done with biogas generated from the static granular bed reactor (SGBR)?
The biogas produced by the SGBR can be utilized to replace natural gas or to generate electricity. The biogas or electricity can be tied into an already existing system for your use and/or sold to generate revenue.
4. Does EnviroESI sample of the waste streams to determine if I can use their system?
Yes, EnviroESI can sample and analyze wastewater contaminants, water quality, air pollutants and solid waste materials. With EnviroESI’s mobile lab unit, we have the ability to conduct on-site sampling and analysis.
5. Are there any incentive programs for the customer to implement the technologies offered by EnviroESI?
There are a number of federal, state and local incentive programs, in the form of grants and low interest loans, which you may qualify for. Carbon Credits and Renewable Energy Credits may also be applicable and could provide you with additional revenue for using our technology. EnviroESI can assist you with any potential government funding opportunities that may exist for implementing EnviroESI technologies.
6. How do Carbon Credits apply to the SGBR technology?
Carbon Credits apply to systems that collect and combust methane. Because EnviroESI’s system captures methane, a harmful greenhouse gas, you may receive carbon credits for the offset of methane that is not released into the air. The SGBR, an anaerobic digester, is considered an eligible system for the offset of methane. For more detailed information, please contact EnviroESI.®
